Victoria glowing as countdown to her special day begins with a waterfront reception

Royal wedding fever has gripped Sweden amid last minute preparations and the streets of Stockholm are already lined with the country's blue and yellow flags.

But the couple at the centre of the historic occasion, Crown Princess Victoria and fiancé Daniel Westling, are a reminder that they are just like any young lovers on the eve of their nuptials: blissfully happy and full of anticipation about their big day.

Their was excitement was very much in evidence on Wednesday as they were joined by King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia for a pre-wedding reception on board a historic ship.

Eyes shining and with a radiant smile, the 32-year-old crown princess' greeted onlookers with a wave as she walked up the gangplank of the Gotheburg, a reconstruction of an 18th-century vessel that once plied the silk route.

Also on hand were her siblings Carl Philip and Madeleine, who has returned home from New York, where she's been staying in the aftermath of the break-up of her own engagement to Jonas Bergstrom.

The sumptuous 25-course dinner, featuring dishes inspired by the Swedish landscape created by gourmet chefs and entertainment from the Götheborg Opera, took place on the waterfront in Stockholm.

Though details of her gown remain a closely guarded secret the Royal Court has confirmed that the bride will have ten bridesmaids and page boys, including princes and princesses from Europe's royal families, many of whom are Victoria's godchildren.

Her father will give her away – a break with local custom in which couples usually walk down the aisle side by side.
