Princess Madeleine breaks silence to confirm presence at Victoria's wedding and give thanks for support

Since her split with fiancé Jonas Bergstrom in April, Princess Madeleine has been in New York, where she's been shying away from the cameras and being comforted by friends.

But now the 28-year-old has broken her silence in a statement released on the Swedish royal family's official website.

Although it does not reveal much, it does officially confirm the princess will be returning to Stockholm to attend her sister Victoria's wedding to Daniel Westling on Saturday.

The statement also expressed Madeleine's gratitude to those who had supported her since her split.

"She would like to thank everyone for the support and consideration shown towards her recently," it read.

However, the message did reveal the princess would not be staying permanently in Sweden right now.

At the end of summer she will be returning abroad – most likely back to the United States – to direct projects for her mother Queen Silvia's World Childhood Foundation.

The princess is currently not taking part in any official engagements, but she did return to Sweden at the end of May to attend her sister's hen party.

For reasons of courtesy, the contributions she had prerecorded for programmes related to the wedding and the royal family have been cut by TV companies.
