The Fringe Tiara
The tiara was made for Queen Mary in 1919 using diamonds taken from a necklace purchased by Queen Victoria in 1893. In 1936 Queen Mary gave it to the Queen Mother who lent it to her daughter Princess Elizabeth – later
Queen Elizabeth II – for her
wedding in 1947. The Queen mother later lent it to
Princess Anne for her 1973 nuptials.
According to the Royal Collection, the tiara is not – as many sources claim – made from diamonds that belonged to King George III.
