Monaco royal wedding: How the sports-loving prince met his match

Royal watchers were overjoyed when the announcement came that Prince Albert was to wed his South African love Charlene Wittstock after four years together.

Their romance seemed sure from the start. It was clear Charlene was charmed by Albert's sense of humour as they were pictured together for the first time at the opening ceremony of the Turin Winter Olympics in February 2006.

He, in turn, appreciated her joie-de-vivre, passion for life and fun.
