Chris O'Neill kisses Princess Madeleine in a moment of true affection two days ahead of their royal wedding

In a moment of true affection, Chris O'Neill showed just how devoted he is to his bride-to-be when he kissed Princess Madeleine of Sweden's hand on Thursday, the country's National Day.

Princess Madeleine, dressed in traditional Swedish folkdräkt – the traditional flower-embroidered pinafore worn over a white blouse – and Chris were openly affectionate throughout the day, with just two days to go until their wedding.

They held hands at every opportunity on what was the last National Day for Madeleine as an officially single lady and the first for Chris since proposing to the Princess.

Madeleine, 30, spent the traditional day of fun close by her soon-to-be-husband's side. The pair rode in a carriage with Madeleine's parents King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia waving to throngs of celebratory crowds.

They sat next to Prince Carl Philip during the speeches and musical performances, holding hands and leaning towards each other continuously to speak into one another's ear when Madeleine may have been translating, as her American partner does not yet speak Swedish.

Chris was handsome in a black suit and violet tie with a white handkerchief showing in his top pocket and looked smitten during the public proceedings.

The couple, due to marry on Saturday 8 June in a 4pm ceremony in the Royal Palace's chapel, joined the rest of Sweden's royal family for the day of celebrations at Skansen in Stockholm.

To mark the National Day, the Swedish royal family released an adorable photo, not of the soon-to-be-weds but of the young Princess Estelle dressed in a gorgeous traditional Swedish outfit.

With a cute bow in her hair and wearing the Swedish folkdräkt, smiling Estelle was seen excitedly running around the gardens of the family's home.

"National Day greetings from Haga Palace!" was the accompanying message, which was posted on the royal house's official website and Facebook page.

The Swedish royals will kick off more celebrations on Friday evening with a glamorous dinner at Stockholm's Grand Hotel prior to Madeleine and Chris's wedding, which will take place on Saturday.
