Princess Madeleine shines next to Chris O'Neill one month before their wedding

Princess Madeleine of Sweden was glowing as she and her fiancé Chris O'Neill attended a diplomatic gala on Monday, just one month before their wedding.

All eyes in Washington's Chase Center were on the royal as she swept through the hall in a stunning scarlet gown. Chris, who is steadily increasing his profile before their 8 June nuptials, strode confidently by her side.

The couple, who became engaged last October, were attending the 375th anniversary of the establishment of the New Sweden region in Washington.

Inside, they mingled with royals and diplomats including Madeleine's parents King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and Barack Obama's right hand man Joe Biden

The U.S. Vice President personally extended his best wishes to the couple during a speech, saying, "I want to wish Princess Madeleine and her future husband all the luck in the world."

Swedish monarch Carl Gustaf and his wife are currently visiting America in order to spend some time with Madeleine before she takes her vows.

Their time has been split between last minute planning and attending engagements designed to give Chris his first taste of royal duties.

"I'm learning to represent Sweden and I'm looking forward to the wedding," Chris said as he attended a recent photocall with his prospective family.

Princess Madeleine has called New York home since she split with ex-fiancé Jonas Bergstrom in 2010.

She and Chris will soon return to her homeland where they will tie the knot in Stockholm's Royal Palace Chapel On 8 June.

Before they say 'I do', the Swedish public will be invited to take part in a pre-wedding tradition which gives people the chance to express any reason why they think the marriage shouldn't go ahead.

The process is a formality and once it has been completed, a reception will be held in the royal palace to celebrate public support for the wedding.

Princess Madeleine has suggested that well wishers who want to give gifts instead make a donation to the World Childhood Foundation – the charity founded by her mother and of which the princess is a passionate supporter.

With all the details now taken care of, royal watchers are looking forward to June when the entire Swedish royal family, including Madeleine's sister Crown Princess Victoria and her brother Prince Carl Philip, will attend the wedding of the year.
