Princess Madeleine's pride as her parents introduce Chris O'Neill to royal life in New York

With their daughter Madeleine's wedding tantalisingly close, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia have made a visit to New York to show their support.

The Swedish royals spent quality time with their youngest child and her fiancé Chris O'Neill, who got his first taste of royal engagements.

"I'm learning to represent Sweden and I'm looking forward to the wedding," Chris said as he attended a photo call with his prospective family.

It was clear that the financier has been given the royal seal of approval from the Swedish monarch and his wife.

Madeleine, who will wed Chris in her homeland on 8 June, couldn't contain her smile as watched her parents bond with her future husband.

The princess looked radiant in a series of outfits, including a chic grey trench, slim leg trousers and high heels which matched her clutch and coat. (below)

She, Chris and her parents attended various joint engagements in the Big Apple, the place Madeleine has called home since she split with ex-fiancé Jonas Bergstrom.

They visited Castle Clinton National Monument and enjoyed a bite to eat at the Red Rooster Harlem restaurant. The resident chef was raised in Sweden and the royals dropped by to support his business.

As well as inducting Chris into official engagements, the group will have taken the opportunity to discuss the royal wedding, which will take place in the grand surroundings of the Royal Palace Chapel in Stockholm.

On 19 June, the Swedish public will be invited to take part in a pre-wedding tradition which gives people the chance to express any reason why they think the marriage shouldn't go ahead.

The process is a formality and once it has been completed, a reception will be held in the royal palace to celebrate public support for the wedding.

Princess Madeleine has suggested that well wishers who want to give gifts instead make a donation to the World Childhood Foundation – the charity founded by her mother and of which the princess is a passionate supporter.

With all the details now taken care of, royal watchers are looking forward to 8 June when the entire Swedish royal family, including Madeleine's sister Crown Princess Victoria and her brother Prince Carl Philip, will attend the wedding of the year.
