Simon Cowell has opened up about his two-year-old son Eric, revealing that he "wasn't good" at knowing how to bond with Eric as a baby.

Chatting to Jimmy Fallon on US chat show The Tonight Show, Simon revealed that it took time for Eric to understand him. He said: "I wasn't good to begin with. I thought he was going to be like a puppy. I really did…like you could throw things and he would run to you after three months. And after eight months I said to Lauren one night 'I think he hates me!'

Simon opened up about his son, Eric

"Then one day he was watching me on TV and then he kind of got me, and he started talking to me and now we're buddies."

The proud dad regularly takes to social media to share snaps of his little boy, and has previously chatted about his judging talents, suggesting that Eric might one day follow in his dad's footsteps. He told People magazine: "He's the world's cutest little boy. I've got to tell you, he's going to be my little right-hand man – anything he likes I like.

"He's brilliant, he comes down to the auditions and really enjoys the acts. He's very good to watch funnily enough, because I can see when he's bored and when he's up dancing. He's a good critic already. He's unpaid but he's helping me!"

Simon has been teaching Eric about his favourite music

An insider also recently revealed that Simon has begun to teach Eric about music, telling the Daily Star: "Eric is only being dished up the best of the best. Simon loves a bit of Frank to put him in the mood and make him feel like home. He felt that listening to Sinatra was a real help to his own musical growth as a child.

"So Eric is being given a great start to his musical education. He is starting to talk now, but who knows if he will pick up the singing bug."
